About the team?
Reading Train Care Depot is a large team with a can-do attitude and a willingness to work together to ensure we offer the GWR business the best LTV train service possible. Predominately responsible for the class 387 and 165 Fleets of trains, we are also responsible for the prestigious Cornish Riviera Sleeper train service. Reading Train Care Depot is privileged to be at the heart of the thriving London Thames Valley (LTV) network and offers, not only our LTV trains services, but state of the art wheel lathe capabilities to external train operators including Network Rail. With the recent introduction of our new ‘387 Air' trains to service the Heathrow Express corridor and ultra-modernised 769 tri-mode trains Reading Train Care Depot really is leading the way in innovative train Operations and Engineering.
About the job?
Working as part of a team of ten highly trained and communicative individuals, you will be responsible for the overall method of moving trains around the depot, focussing on the core objectives required for a successful engineering depot, these include Maintenance, Cleaning, preparation and train delivery. You will work alongside a team of Maneuverers who will move and shunt the trains under your instructions. Efficiency, Planning, relationship building, and great communication are paramount to be successful within this role.
What you'll be doing?
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Communicating effectively to Depot colleagues to ensure a smooth transition between train movements, maintenance work and preparation of trains ready for service.
- Completing reports and logs detailing occurrence during the shift
- Following a simplifier train plan ensuring vehicles are fuelled and placed on routes which correspond with the fuel allowance of the vehicle
- Replying to requests from external stakeholders like Network Rail when access to the depot is required.
- Maintaining a safe environment for all that work in it.
Who we're looking for?
You'll need to be:
- Able to work alone for long periods of time.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Work to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate excellent safety awareness.
- Open to improvements and willing to accept change.
- Flexibility and able to work shifts (including night shifts).
As a minimum you'll need to have:
- Experience of working shifts.
- Excellent communication skills along with knowledge of the phonetic alphabet.
- Experience of working alone and with a team.
- A methodical approach to your work.
- Knowledge of the operational railway would be a benefit but not a requirement.
Additional Information?
The successful candidate for this role will be required to work shifts, which includes weekends and bank holidays and will require to undertake a rigorous assessment process before interviews will take place.
